Captain Roger Whitefield

Roger was born in 1946 and undertook all his education in the UK between 1953 – 1964; after which time he spent 2 years at the College of Air Training, Hamble learning to fly.
On graduating he joined BOAC flying the VC10, an aircraft on which he spent the next 12 years and on which he gained his command in 1977.
After a brief spell as a Training Captain on the Tristar he moved to the B747 as
Training Manager in 1986 and went on to introduce the B747 –400 in 1989.
His management career in BA continued in the post of Technical Manager B747 in 1990 and then Chief Pilot B747 & Concorde in 1991.This was followed by GM Flight Ops services in 1995 and Deputy Head of Safety in 1996 and became Head of Safety in 2000 a position that he held until retirement from BA in 2005.
Currently he is a non executive Board member of the UK CAA and also undertakes some overseas advisory work.
He was married in 1970, has three sons and enjoys most outdoor sports.
